Annual Virginia Tech Fashion Show, Into the Wild

This April, the Fashion Merchandising and Design Society at Virginia Tech will showcase student designs and local boutique fashion at their annual spring fashion show, Into the Wild. Each year the show takes on a different theme, and this year the Fashion Show Coordinators, Lauren Steele and Amanda Gordon, have decided to take the show and its theme to a new level. The theme “Into the Wild” is designed to transport the audience with looks that combine both edgy and feminine design aesthetics. Expect to see everything from flowers and butterflies to kimonos and black lipstick. Designers this year were encouraged to stick to the theme with the intent to give the show a more cohesive look, but their different interpretations of the theme will be what captivate the audience.

Early on, Gordon and Steele decided to make this year’s show bigger and better than ever. For the first time ever, the coordinators decided to form different committees to help with the show’s planning process, instead of relying on a single assistant like in previous years. The Into the Wild “Dream Team” meets weekly and consists of Marketing, PR, and Creative committee members. The committees have brought entirely new perspectives into the way the show will function. They will hold promotional events on campus in the weeks leading up to the show and are expecting an audience of 500 people, making it the biggest fashion show in FMDS history. In addition to the designs walking the runway, there will be an inside look at the design process and interactive elements for the audience.

The work of 13 student designers, as well as looks from local boutiques, will be worn by 26 student models. Under the guidance of student model manager Jasmine White, the models have attended weekly workshops to perfect their strides, turns, and facial expressions for the show. Come out and watch them transport you “Into the Wild” on Blacksburg’s most fashionable night of the year!

The show will take place on April 12th at 8 p.m. in the Squires Commonwealth Ballroom. Doors to the show will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale March 14th and may be purchased online and at the Squires Ticket Office for $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
